Mark Schultzel MD MBA is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Originally from a small town in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mark grew up abroad with his twin brother, Scripps colorectal and robotic surgeon Dr. Matthew Schultzel. He settled in San Diego upon matriculation into UC San Diego for undergraduate studies, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and continued his medical school education. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency in Kansas City, Missouri, before completing a fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
Dr. Schultzel specializes in conditions of the shoulder and elbow, ranging from sports injuries like rotator cuff tears, labral tears, tennis elbow, and Tommy John injuries, to fracture and arthritis care about the shoulder and elbow, as well as nerve injuries like carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome. He is an expert in minimally-invasive arthroscopic procedures as well as in shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. Dr. Schultzel is a volunteer clinic instructor for the UCSD Dept of Orthopedic Surgery, and a team physician for the US Olympic Committee, USA Kendo Team, and the San Diego Legion Rugby Team. His ethos in clinical practice is to provide cutting-edge surgical techniques combined with empathetic care for his patients.
