Dr. Tarek Hassanein received his medical degree from Faculty of Science/Alexandria University in 1982. He later completed an Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Faculty of Science/Alexandria University in 1987. He then served an Internal Medicine Residency at Wayne State University, and a Clinical Research Fellowship as well as Gastroenterology Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh in 1994.

Dr. Hassanein specializes in Gastroentereology and Transplant Hepatology, and helps patients with GI diseases. He is a Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine in San Diego, California (UCSD). He also serves as the Director of Southern California GI & Liver Centers and is the Director of the Clinical Trials Center. Dr. Hassanein is the Co-Director of Liver Transplantation at Scripps Clinic.

Dr. Tarek Hassanein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Transplant Hepatology. He also speaks English, Arabic, and German.
