Dr. Chao has been the recipient of numerous prestigious state and national research awards. He holds multiple research grants and patents with a number of bio-tech companies in the development of novel devices for plastic and hand surgery. Dr. Chao also provides his services free of charge for many disadvantaged children by volunteering during the weekends at the Fresh Start Organization in San Diego. Dr. Chao holds an academic position at the Division of Plastic Surgery, University of California at San Diego. His ultimate goal is to pioneer new technologies for plastic surgery patients to minimize scarring and reduce downtime.
